WUEC 89.7 FM PROGRAMMING FOR OCTOBER 5
EAU CLAIRE, Wis., September 30–– Blugold Radio airs this Sunday with a focus on a University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire upcoming theatre production.
Producer Kayla Menzie’s “Around the Arts” segment this week focuses on the upcoming play “The Love of the Nightingale.” This production is set to run October 16-18 and October 22-24. All shows go from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Riverside theatre in the Haas Fine Arts Center on the UW-Eau Claire campus. “The Love of the Nightingale” is a play by Timberlake Wertenbaker first performed in 1989. It is an adaption of a dark Ancient Greek legend, however this play takes a feminist look at the ancient mythology. Menzie will be speaking with two of the actresses from this production.
News Director Glen Olson will be talking again about the possible housing changes and rezoning around campus. He will be covering more of the developments with the third ward, as well as getting opinions from those around the neighborhood.
Reporter Sam Martinez will continue talking about the new voting software through the Student Senate which allows voters to register online. Students can access the site at http://www.uwec.turbovote.com or through the Student Senate’s website under “voter registration.” He will be talking about this change in voting and the rules regarding a voting I.D.
Producer Zhen Wei Yap will be focusing on Ethiopia for his International segment “The Zhen Plane.” He will be talking to an Ethiopian UW-Eau Claire student about cultural food and other traditions, while reporter Elizabeth Gosling will play music from the country and talk about a typical day shopping there.
Station Manager Bre Lyga will interview UW-Eau Claire creative writing professor B.J. Hollars about his new hybrid text Dispatches from the Drowning: Reporting the Fiction of Nonfiction. Hollars is the author of two books of nonfiction, a collection of stories, and has edited three books.
Reporter Jake Meurett will continue with his feature on local author Priscillamae Olson. Olson was signed to Tate Publishing with her soon-to-be-published book The End of the Road.
Reporter Samantha Wensel will be reviewing the movie “Big Fish” for her weekly “Sammi Says” segment. “Big Fish” was directed by Tim Burton and released in 2003. It stars talent Ewan McGregor, Albert Finney, Billy Crudup, and Jessica Lange.
Reporter Kiri Salinas will be reporting on food trucks in Eau Claire.
And finally, reporter Jake Paulis will be playing Electro Swing music throughout the show. Electro Swing is a musical genre combining the influence of vintage swing with contemporary ‘electro’ production techniques or styles. Listen for best-known artists Parov Stelar and Caravan Palace.
