WUEC 89.7 FM PROGRAMMING FOR DECEMBER 14
EAU CLAIRE, Wis., December 9–– Blugold Radio airs live this Sunday with a feature on UW-Eau Claire’s improvisation group, The Backwards Thinkers Society. This will be the last show of the fall semester.
Producer Kayla Menzie’s “Exploring the Arts” segment this week will highlight an interview with members of The Backwards Thinkers Society. The group will be performing at an upcoming improv festival.
Reporter Kiri Salinas will be speaking with the McIntyre Library Staff Association about their annual fundraiser for the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association. The McIntyre Library Staff Association gathers donations to benefit the Rice Pantry. This year the Association has also partnered with Hmong student groups to help raise awareness about the fundraiser.
Producer Courtney Kueppers will be speaking with members from AIESEC. AIESEC is an international organization that helps students find internship and volunteer experiences abroad.
Reporter Sam Martinez will be speaking with psychology professor Jennifer Muehlenkamp about a grant she recently received to create a suicide prevention program on campus. Muehlenkamp was awarded a three-year $304,029 Campus Suicide Prevention grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. She will use this money to help educate the campus community on how to recognize the signs of suicide, depression and anxiety in UW- Eau Claire students.
Reporter Matthew Rothschild will be conducting a “creepypasta” radio drama. Creepypasta is a collection of stories that are shared on the internet and are intended to unnerve the audience.
Station Manager Breane Lyga will be doing a story on the prevalence of fires in the winter. Fire prevention may be overlooked in the winter due to the cold, but fires can often be started by plugged space heaters and AC ducts.
Producer Zhen Wei Yap and reporter Elizabeth Gosling will be exploring traditions and music in Pakistan during the international segment, “The Zhen Plane.”
Reporter Raina Beutel will be conducting a story on electronic cigarettes. A more recent fad, electronic cigarettes are a battery powered vaporizer that mimics tobacco smoking. Although the cartridges do not contain tobacco, they can still contain nicotine.
Reporter Samantha Wensel will be reviewing the Christmas movie, “Love Actually” during her weekly “Sammi Says” segment. The 2003 romantic comedy directed by Richard Curtis, follows the lives of eight different couples during the frantic month leading up to Christmas.
And finally, Reporter Jake Paulis will be playing music from Brendon Maclean. Maclean is an Indie and Alternative Rock artist.
